A PROLIFIC thief has been handed his second ASBO following a spate of thefts from businesses on retail parks.

Paul Challenor, 38, of Douglas Street, was convicted of theft at Knowsley Magistrates’ Court earlier this month following thefts from retail parks both in St Helens and on the Wirral.

Challenor’s two-year ASBO prohibits him from touching or entering any vehicle without the permission of the owner.

It also bans him from being in the company of James David Carney or entering Cables Retail Park, Ravenhead Retail Park, St Helens Retail Park and Bromborough Retail Park.

Challenor, who first received an ASBO for similar behaviour in 2008, could face up to five years imprisonment if he breaches the terms of the order.

St Helens Council and Merseyside Police worked together with St Helens Chamber and businesses on the retail parks to obtain the order.

Chief Inspector Dave Pryce said: “People who cause this type of persistent nuisance to businesses and members of the public in the town centre will not be tolerated and positive action will be taken against them.”
