POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a serious road collision left an elderly taxi passenger fighting for her life.

Emergency crews were called to a crash involving a silver Skoda Octavia and a black Renault Laguna along Cowley Hill Lane - near the junction with Keswick Road - shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday, September 25.

Firefighters had to remove the front nearside door of the taxi to help extricate the passenger, a 76-year-old woman.

The casualty was subsequently taken to hospital with serious injuries. Her condition is described as “critical”.

The driver of the taxi, a 35-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor neck injuries and a cut to his nose.

The driver of the Laguna, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries to her face and neck. She has since been discharged and is recuperating at home.

Road closures were put in place on Bishop Road and Duke Street while collision investigators examined the scene and were re-opened at about 8.45pm.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the collision investigation unit on 0151 777 5444 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
