Sia assault night-spot to remain shut

A ST Helens nightspot where Saints star Sia Soliola was assaulted will remain closed until a full hearing.

Bosses at the Imperial Bar in Ormskirk Street applied to licensing chiefs at St Helens Council for permission to reopen the troubled nightspot.

But their application was ignored on the basis that the premises had been associated with serious violent crime.

A full review hearing will now be held on April 11.

The Imperial Bar’s licence was suspended on March 16 following an attack on Saints forward Soliola.

Three bouncers were arrested in connection with the attack and are currently released on police bail.

A council spokeswoman said: “The Sub Committee decided that the interim steps taken on 16 March to suspend the licence and remove the Designated Premises Supervisor should not be changed pending the full review.

“The original decision was taken after an application for summary review from Merseyside Police saying the premises are associated with serious violent crime and disorder.”
