A doctor’s career is in ruins after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman during a private examination.
Ex-Whiston Hospital doctor Shahid Ayyoub undid a patient’s bra and began massaging her with oil - including touching her breasts - during a 50 minute examination to assess whiplash injuries.
Ayyoub, 57, of Walsham Gardens, Thatto Heath, was unanimously convicted of two sexual assaults on the woman in an examination room in Leeds in June 2012.
Jailing him for 12 months, Judge Geoffrey Marson described his actions as a gross breach of trust.
He said: “While she lay on the couch in that examination room you touched the side of her breasts. It is clear that caused deep concern and the jury have found it was intentional and sexual.
“Much to the distress of your victim you repeatedly rubbed your hand over her breasts under her clothing.”
Leeds Crown Court heard how the victim was reduced to tears after Dr Ayyoub lifted up her long sleeved t-shirt, undid her bra and began massaging her.
When he was arrested he said any contact with her breasts was accidental.
Mukhtar Hussain QC, defending Ayyoub, said the conviction would have devastating consequences for him as he now faced being struck off.
Judge Marson ordered Ayyoub to register as a sex offender for 10 years and pay £2,275 costs.
A Whiston Hospital spokeswoman said: “In the past Dr Ayyoub worked at the trust for one four-hour session a week. No incidents of this nature were reported when he worked here. Prior to this allegation there were no concerns regarding his fitness to practice. The trust has now terminated his contract.”
