Rush hour tailbacks

COMMUTERS were delayed by rush-hour tailbacks along the St Helens Linkway this morning (Monday) after a car travelling in the fast lane ran out of fuel.

Police were called to a stretch of road near the Sutton Hall roundabout - close to the junction with Elton Head Road - by the owner of a silver BMW X3 estate shortly before 8.40am.

The driver, a doctor from Salford, informed officers that his passenger had headed out on foot to get fuel.

Three roads policing vehicles were dispatched to the scene to deal with the traffic congestion.

The BMW had been moved to a safe location by 9.10am.
