Saints chairman Eamonn McManus shows The Duke of Kent around Langtree Park

SAINTS welcomed a Royal visitor to their new home on Monday.

The Duke of Kent took a tour of Langtree Park, escorted by chairman Eamonn McManus alongside St Helens mayor Geoff Almond.

He was fully briefed on the stadium project and given a whirlwind history of the club and the 13-a-side code.

The Duke then watched the team train on the pitch before being introduced to coach Mike Rush as well as several players.

Mr McManus said: “It was an honour for us to receive HRH the Duke of Kent in the first season at Langtree Park and in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration year.

“HRH was clearly very impressed by the stadium and its facilities and showed a real interest in the history of the game and the Club.

“He was very at ease with the players and staff and thoroughly enjoyed his visit, as did we.”
