Queen's Diamond Jubilee street party at Orkney Close
THERE was plenty of Jubilee spirit to go around in St Helens over the long bank holiday weekend.
As well as 23 official street parties across the borough - not to mention the feelgood factor created by Friday’s visit of the Olympic torch - local school children really embraced the Jubilee theme.
Pupils at Legh Vale primary school even planted a special Jubilee Oak Tree to celebrate HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The tree-planting also coincided with Royal Oak Day and the opening of the school’s new sustainable garden.
Meanwhile, students from Mill Green School got dressed up for their very own Jubilee party.
Splitting into groups, they each chose to represent a decade from HM The Queen’s 60-year reign.
The youngsters put plenty of research into the project too - finding out what people were eating, what music they were listening to and what was in the news – as well as the right clothes to wear for the party.
They then took part in a concert, which was followed by a disco, face painting, a street party and bouncy castle.
Teaching assistant Elaine Roberts said: “All the students and staff had a wonderful time. We also produced a card from the day which we’re sending to Buckingham Palace.”
