MORE than 95 families in Haydock and St Helens are taking legal action to fight against the on-going odour and other problems which residents say emanate from the Lyme and Wood landfill site.

Residents living near to the site, operated by Cory Environmental (Central) Limited, allege serious odour problems since 2006 which mean that many of them are unable to open their doors and windows.

Specialist environmental solicitors, Hugh James solicitors, have been instructed to pursue Cory Environmental (Central) Limited.

Solicitor Gwen Evans, of Hugh James, said: “The evidence we have seen suggests that residents have been exposed to an unacceptable level of odour from the landfill site.

“People in these circumstances may be entitled to compensation for what they have suffered in the past, and an injunction to prevent the continuation of this nuisance in future. Those affected should contact us for more details if they would like to make a claim.”

The group of residents instructed Hugh James to assist them with this case based on a ‘no win no fee’ basis.

Hugh James has vast experience in this area, having dealt with some of the country’s most high profile environmental group action cases and have successfully represented many thousands of residents throughout the UK faced with similar environmental problems.

An open day is due to be held at St Patricks Social Club, 111 Common Road, Newton-le-Willows, WA12 9JH on February 6 between 2pm and 8pm where further information about the claim, funding, next steps and any questions will be answered by the specialist environmental team from Hugh James.

Anyone affected by this issue should contact Hugh James for further information on 0844 326 7218, text ODOUR to 66777 along with a name and address, or email environmentgroup@hughjames.com
