Pupils are still getting into their first choice of school

THE proportion of children in St Helens getting into their first choice primary school this September has fallen slightly.

However, official figures show only 14 children failed to get into any of their three top choices.

They also reveal 96.82 per cent won a place at their first choice, down slightly from 97.69 per cent last year.

Parents across the borough discovered this week if they been successful in getting their child into their school of choice.

Council officials also reported a huge rise of parents making online application, up from 54 per cent last year to 75.36 per cent this.

Figures for secondary admissions are released next month.

Councillor Alison Bacon (pictured), cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “Thanks to a lot of hard work behind the scenes, we’ve been able to ensure that the overwhelming majority of parents have received one of their first three choices.”
