Pool pervert sentencing delayed

THE sentencing of a pervert swimmer who indecently assaulted a teenage girl at a busy St Helens pool has been put back for a THIRD time - because of delays in preparing a psychiatric report.

William Kirby, 35, admitted dunking a 17-year-old’s head towards his groin before St Helens Magistrates’ Court last November after high-tech underwater CCTV cameras at the Queens Park baths caught him in the act.

But his sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court was delayed yet again yesterday (April 24) because a psychiatric report due from the Scott Clinic in Rainhill had not been passed on in time for the Probation Service to prepare a report.

The victim’s family told of their distress at the further delays continuing to prolong their agony.

Kirby, of Prescot Road, was originally due to be sentenced before Liverpool Crown Court in December. He is now due to be sentenced on May 22.

Kirby’s conditional bail includes stipulations not to have any contact with the victim or to enter any gym or leisure centre.
