ST HELENS police are investigating a mugging in which sick thugs attacked a heavily pregnant woman before stealing her mobile phone.

Two men pushed the 33-year-old victim to the ground while she was out walking her dog - before making off with her iPhone.

Fortunately, the victim, who is six months pregnant, was not seriously injured, although she was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The incident occurred in Low Bank Road, near Skitters Grove, Ashton, at about 5.45pm on Thursday, September 20. The mum-to-be was walking to her parents’ house at the time.

In a bid to track down the muggers, detectives have now released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the crime.

DC Neil Henry urged witnesses, or anyone with information, to “do the right thing”.

He said: “This was a despicable thing to do to anyone but especially to a woman who is noticeably pregnant.

“They then ran off into Skitters Grove. I would urge people to take a close look at the person in this e-fit and, if you think you recognise them, do the right thing and call the police or Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information can call St Helens CID on 0151 777 6061 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
