A St Helens man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an alleged assault in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, August 14), which left the victim fatally injured.
Police were called to a house on Beacon Grove, Blackbrook, at about 2.20am after receiving a report that a man had been assaulted.
By the time they arrived the victim, a 35-year-old man, had died.
Officers are now in the process of confirming the man’s identity and tracing his next of kin. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
A 33-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody where he is being questioned by detectives.
The house has been cordoned off whilst forensic examinations are undertaken and officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the local area.
