Police want to hear from a motorist who stopped to check if a distressed assault victim was okay.

Officers were called to Church Road, Haydock, on February 15 following an alleged assault in a nearby house.

A woman who was driving past the property at about 10am is believed to have stopped and checked on the welfare of a woman holding a baby.

DI Paul Unsworth said: “This motorist was kind enough to stop her car to check if the woman was okay.

“We believe she may have information which could help us with our inquiries and I would appeal to her to get in touch with us.

“Church Road is a busy ‘A’ road and other people driving past may also have seen something out of the ordinary. If you were in the area on that Saturday morning and noticed anything unusual, I’d urge you to get in contact with us.”

Anyone with information can call police on 01744 673151 or the 101 non emergency number.

Witnesses can also call the charity Crimestoppers, where there is no obligation to leave you name, by calling 0800 555111.
