Four men and a woman have been arrested following a police raid in which a gun and a stash of cannabis was found at a house in St Helens.
Officers forced their way into the property on Wyresdale Avenue in Windle on Wednesday night (April 23).
During a fingertip search of the outside of the property, officers found the firearm along with a small amount of cannabis.
The gun, thought to be a revolver, has been recovered and is being forensically examined.
Four men aged 19, 20, 27 and 41, and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.
They are currently being quizzed by detectives at St Helens police station.
Det Sgt Barry Jones, of St Helens CID, said: “We remain absolutely committed in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime and this is another firearm off our streets.
“I would encourage members of the public to share any information they have in relation to gun crime. You can be confident that we will act on all information and the information provided, no matter how small, could lead officers to recovering a gun.
