POLICE want to speak to this man, pictured above and below, in connection with a racially aggravated assault.

Detectives say a 24-year-old man was racially abused and assaulted while travelling on an Arriva 10A bus on Saturday January 19.

The incident occurred at about 6.30pm between the stops on Bridge Street and Rainford Road following a verbal altercation between a number of men.

The victim was hospitalised with bruises to his face and is now recovering at home.

Officers from Sigma, the force’s hate crime investigation unit, are appealing for anyone with any information about the incident to come forward.

DC Michelle Cliffe said: “Incidents of this kind, where victims are subjected to racial abuse, be it physically or verbally, will not be tolerated. We are investigating a number of lines of inquiry and are keen to speak to anyone with any information that could help our inquiries.

“We understand that there were a number of people on the bus during the course of the incident and I appeal for them to contact us. In particular, we would like to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV, or anyone who recognises him, as he may have information that could assist with the investigation.”

Anyone with any information can call police on 0151 777 6063 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
