A TEENAGER was slapped in the face by two girls while travelling on a train through Whiston.

British Transport Police (BTP) investigators have released CCTV footage of two women they would like to speak to in connection with the September 21 incident.

PC Mark Hagan said: “An altercation took place on board the 8.12pm Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria service.

“The victim, an 18-year-old woman from the Bradford area, got on the train at Lime Street and sat opposite three girls. Before the train left the station two more girls got on and sat with the group of three.

“The group of girls became very intimidating, making derogatory comments towards the victim and touching her hair. She moved carriages but was followed.”

Shortly before the train stopped at Whiston rail station one of the group tried to engage the victim in conversation.

When she refused, two of the girls slapped her in the face, before quickly leaving the train at Whiston - just before 8.30pm.

PC Hagan added: “Our inquiries are still ongoing and we would urge anyone who recognises the women pictured, or who was on the train in question, to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on freephone 0800 405040 quoting reference B4/NWA of 12/10/12.
