Meet Amy, the pet whisperer

THIS is Amy Lawrenson ... St Helens’ very own pet whisperer.
The 30-year-old animal healer says the diverse range of Reiki treatments she offers can help your pet with everything from physical injuries and behavioural problems to coping with stress and grief.
Most recently Amy, of Sutton, used her healing hands to cure a hand-reared mare called Miracle who was struck down lame when she was badly kicked by another horse.
Although Amy doesn’t claim to replace the work of vets, the animal-lover says her complementary therapies can help everything from cats and dogs to horses to “feel as if they are being listened to”.
She told the Reporter: “Miracle’s owner, Claire Aviemore, contacted me as a last resort because she had been told by vets that Miracle was so badly injured that she would never be able to ride her again.
“Often, when an animal is in discomfort, it will misbehave to show that it is not happy and, in Miracle’s case, she kept nudging me towards her back to show me where she needed to be treated first.
“In just two sessions I managed to get Miracle to relax and start her on the road to recovery. I also fed her some herbal remedies to help reset her body and get to the root of the problem.
“Claire was absolutely delighted with the results.”
Amy, who trained at Liverpool’s Pauline Mahoney School of Hypnotherapy in 2004, completed her formal animal healing training in 2009.
But she only set up her own business – Silver Daisies Healing – earlier this year after the death of her beloved horse, Daisy, following a long illness.
Amy, who lives in Sutton with her cats Tess and Nellie and dog Kibble, now treats animals across Merseyside, Cheshire and West Yorkshire and prides herself on delving deep into an animal’s diet, behaviour and past to improve their future.
She added: “Reiki is a complementary therapy, which is provided for cancer patients on the NHS, and has been shown to be very effective on animals. If it can help alongside vet treatment, or in supporting an existing treatment, then I have done my job.
“People can be sceptical about it but animals have no pre-meditated bias towards it and I’ve been able to use it with massive success.
“Reiki works on every level too – I even use it to help some horses pre-competition to improve the suppleness of their joints.
“Of course, there’s always a chance that an animal will simply not take to my healing therapies – but, touch wood, I’ve not found one yet!”
