A motorist was left suffering from leg and back injuries after he was rammed in a road rage hit-and-run.

Police say a flashpoint was sparked following a crash involving a silver BMW 1-series and a silver Vauxhall Zafira on the Kirkland Street roundabout, near Asda, shortly before 5.30pm on Tuesday, November 5.

Following the crash, the driver of the BMW, a 21-year-old man, pulled over on Lowe Street South and got out of his vehicle.

But, moments later, the Zafira rammed into him - before being driven off.

The driver of the Zafira is believed to be a stocky white man, aged between 35 and 40-years-old, with short dark hair and noticeable stubble.

A woman is thought to have been in the front passenger seat of the Zafira at the time, along with a child on the back seat.

Police, who are now reviewing CCTV in the area, say the incident damaged the BMW and may have caused damage to the front passenger side of the Zafira.

DCI Lee Turner, of St Helens CID, said: “We believe the Vauxhall Zafira was deliberately driven into the victim, leaving him badly shaken up and with injuries to his legs and back.

“The incident happened in the middle of the afternoon rush-hour on Bonfire Night so it may have stuck in people’s minds.

“I would ask anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us. I’d also appeal to the driver of the Zafira, or anyone who thinks they may know him, to come forward.”

Anyone with information can call St Helens CID on 0151 777 6811 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
