Man jailed for attempting to gouge out care assistant’s eyes

A HOSPITAL worker almost had his eyes gouged out by a patient, a court has heard.
Eugene Furlong attacked care assistant Jeremy Peachey after a row in the hospital’s Conniston Ward.
Furlong, 29, of Huyton, had been admitted voluntarily to Whiston Hospital on May 14.
Later that night he was found prowling around the ward and going in to other patient’s rooms.
When he was confronted by staff he lashed out, attacking Mr Peachey.
After police arrived he also attacked the arresting officer, spitting in her face.
Furlong, whose dad Eugene snr was killed in a Huyton pub brawl, was jailed for 20 months.
