Man hurt in high-speed crash
A MOTORIST suffered serious head injuries following an early hours crash.
Emergency crews were called to Blindfoot Road in Rainford at about 1am last Wednesday (March 6) after a Volvo travelling at high speed smashed through a fence before coming to rest in a field.
The car had been spotted by officers in a police patrol car and they provided first aid to a 20-year-old man found near the car.
The man was taken to Fazakerley Hospital where his condition was described as serious and his next of kin were informed.
As the vehicle had been sighted by the police patrol car just prior to the collision Merseyside Police referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) - but that has since been referred back for a local investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash can call the police non emergency number on 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
