Man groped teenage girl in street

Crime story

Crime story

Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl on a busy town centre street.

Patrols were called to Westfield Street at about 10pm on Sunday, April 6, after the victim was groped by a man - over her clothes - as he ran past her.

Detectives have reviewed CCTV from the area in a bid to identify the man responsible and are now urging anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

The offender is described as white, aged in his mid-20s, with blonde hair and a straight fringe. He was wearing a grey tracksuit at the time.

Police say a full investigation into the incident is ongoing and inquiries into the matter continue.

DC Dave Bruce said: “A teenage girl has been left very upset by the actions of this person and I would like to reassure the community that we will not tolerate incidents of this nature and are working hard to identify the man responsible.

“This is a busy street and at even at this time of night it is possible someone might have seen something. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and might have seen the incident to contact police as this could really help our inquiries.

“If you do have anyone information please call St Helens CID on 0151 777 6049, or Crimestoppers, if you would like to provide information anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
