A man was hospitalised with a “serious facial injury” following a vicious assault in a St Helens bar.
Police say the victim, a 27-year-old man, was assaulted in The Venue bar on Westfield Street as he and his partner tried to make their way to the bar.
The assault occurred at about 1.30am on Sunday, June 29.
The victim sustained a wound to the left side of his face which required hospital treatment.
The offender is described as white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6ft 3ins tall with dark, possibly spikey, hair.
He was wearing a white shirt underneath a dark suit-type jacket.
Detectives are examining CCTV from the area and need anyone who was inside The Venue at the time - and who may have witnessed the assault - to contact them with any information they have.
DC Mark Holland, of St Helens CID, said: “This was a vicious attack on a man who had been enjoying a night out in St Helens. At this stage of the investigation we are still trying to piece together exactly what happened in the early hours of Sunday morning but it has left the victim with a serious facial injury.
“I would like to reassure the community that officers are working hard to identify the person responsible for this assault.
“Even at this time in the morning there were other people inside the bar. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that could assist our inquiries to contact police.”
Anyone with information is urged to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6811, or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
