Singer Katy B will perform at St Helens Central Library

UP and coming music star Katy B will perform a unique live gig ... in a St Helens library.

The concert will take place on Friday, June 8 at Central Library in St Helens town centre.

It comes just before the singer performs at Chester Rocks, Wakestock Festival and the Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Council bosses signed up the singer at part of its Get It Loud In Libraries scheme aimed at getting more youngsters into libraries.

Kathryn Boothryd, St Helens Council’s community development manager, said: “We’re overwhelmed to have secured such a high calibre act in Katy B.

“The young people from St Helens who have been working hard to organise it as part of MyVoice, wanted to make sure the gig showcased someone current and popular - and someone who other people would want the opportunity to see.

“As a library team we’re excited to see the library develop into a venue that has the capability to host gigs and attract credible musicians.”

Katy B made one of 2011’s defining singles – the Benga-produced smash ‘Katy on a Mission’, which hit number one in the indie chart and number five in the charts and sat in the top ten for six weeks.

She encapsulates the sound and spirit of British youth culture, witnessed with her collaborative dancefloor smash ‘Lights On’ featuring Ms Dynamite.

She will also work alongside super producer & DJ Mark Ronson on Coca Cola’s Olympic themed single.
