SAINTS ace Josh Perry was arrested running naked down the road as part of an end of season prank.

The 31-year-old Australian shocked passers-by by stripping off and charging along Prescot Road.

Unfortunately for the 6ft 2in prop forward, a police patrol happened to be passing at the exact moment he made his naked dash and arrested him on suspicion of indecent exposure.

He was taken to St Helens police station where a red-faced Perry was asked by police to explain why a grown man was parading naked along a residential street during daylight hours.

Officers accepted his version of events - that he was undertaking a forfeit for failing to score a try this season - and decided not to charge him with indecent exposure.

Had they done so, he would have faced a hefty fine and a maximum prison sentence of six months under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Instead, a force spokesman said he was issued with a fixed penalty notice for “threatening behaviour which could cause alarm or distress”.

The spokeswoman added: “Merseyside Police can confirm that a 31-year-old man from St Helens was arrested on Prescot Road in St Helens on Monday, 1 October 2012 on suspicion of indecent exposure.

“He was taken to a nearby police station where he was interviewed by officers. Following his arrest, the 31-year-old man was issued with a fixed penalty notice for threatening behaviour.”

The incident took place on Monday (October 1) during an end of season bash for Saints first-teamers at a pub in Prescot Road.

Saints declined to comment but it not believed Perry will face any disciplinary action.
