Johnny Vegas to make directorial debut

JOHNNY Vegas is to make his directorial debut in a daytime drama.

The Thatto Heath funnyman will take the helm of an episode of Moving On alongside Hustle star Robert Glenister.

Johnny, real name Michael Pennington, will direct fellow comic Jason Manford.

The series will feature five standalone films.

Stars signed up to appear other episodes include Downton Abbey’s Rob James-Collier and Luther’s Paul McGann.

Moving On explores issues such as divorce, obsessive friendships, public displays of grief and caring for the elderly.

It airs on BBC1 at 2.15pm from next Monday.

Taking the director’s chair of a high-profile programmes is a new challenge for the 42-year-old Johnny.

He has plenty of experiences as a director, having taken a lead role in most of his own TV productions,

Meanwhile, the Vegas’ sitcom Ideal is reportedly to be made into a film, with show creator currently writing the script and production starting next year.
