THE JJB Sports store in Prescot has been closed - at a cost of 16 jobs.

Administrators KPMG confirmed this week that, although rival retailer Sports Direct had bought out 20 JJB stores, the Prescot branch was one of 133 which would be closed immediately.

Of the 17 staff that were based at the Prescot store, 16 have been made redundant.

Richard Fleming, of KPMG, said: “Unfortunately a buyer could only be found for 20 stores on a going concern basis. Our team of employment specialists will be supporting staff on completing redundancy forms and putting them in touch with jobseeker services. We will now be reviewing what options are available for the remainder of the business.”
