Help to find valuable bicycle

The bike stolen from Rochester Gardens, St Helens

The bike stolen from Rochester Gardens, St Helens

POLICE are trying to trace a valuable mountain bike which was stolen during a burglary in St Helens.

The dark grey Kona Delux bike, worth almost £3,000, was among several items stolen from the garage of a house in Rochester Gardens, West Park, overnight on July 31.

Thieves also broke into the 41-year-old victim’s green Mercedes Vito van parked on the drive and stole a blue Makita radio and a Bosch power drill before forcing open the garage door and taking a Stihl saw and a GT Avalanche mountain bike, which is also worth a significant amount.

The owner was woken by a neighbour who said that items from his van and garage were strewn across the street.

Detectives now believe more than one offender was involved and that they either fled the scene on foot or on the stolen mountain bikes.

They are appealing for anyone who has seen a mountain bike like the one pictured being ridden around St Helens or Knowsley, or has been offered a bike like this for sale in suspicous circumstances, to call the police.

A 15-year-old boy from Rainhill was arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle on August 17, but has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

DC Roy Waller said: “The victim is understandably very upset that this has happened and rightly wants to get as many of his belongings back as possible.

“The Kona mountain bike in particular is very important to him and because it is so distinctive and professional-looking. I am sure people will remember if they seen it.”

Anyone with information can call St Helens CID on 0151 777 6842 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
