FOR many, work experience can mean endless photocopying and making cups of teas - but not Heather Bell.

The 14-year-old will be spending her two weeks at the Department of Education after receiving a personal invite from education secretary Michael Gove!

Mr Gove met the Hope Academy pupil during a visit to the Newton school.

And he was so impressed by her confidence and passion for politics he offered her a once-in-a-lifetime chance to spend a fortnight at the very heart of British politics.

Heather’s proud mum Jeanie said: “We are all just so proud of her.

“When Mr Gove visited he spent time talking to a group of the pupils and Heather just really impressed him with the way she spoke and her confidence.”

Her teachers at Hope Academy are equally impressed, while the school is making a £100 donation towards costs.

Assistant principal Georgina Arnold said: “We are very proud that Heather will be representing Hope Academy. Heather is a great Ambassador for the Academy and has a large role in the Academy Senate.”

Heather, who lives in Market Street, Newton, with her mum, dad Rodney and younger sisters Rosie, eight, and nine-year-old Bridie, must raise enough cash to pay for her accommodation and travel.

The family estimate they’ll need around £1,000 and are looking for businesses to help.

If you can help, please contact Heather’s family by emailing bell.household@gmail.com
