IT prompted anger among many St Helens Reporter readers when a defenceless dog was found stabbed on a local field.

But not only has the stricken blue-grey crossbreed lurcher/greyhound now physically recovered from his horrific injuries – he has been found a loving new home via Leigh Cats and Dogs Home.

St Helens Council dog wardens were alerted when residents found the animal weak and in pain lying on a field at the Duckeries in Parr earlier this summer.

Not only had the dog been stabbed several times, its other injuries hinted that the dog had been mistreated over a period of time.

Wardens still hope that someone will know the dog and its owner so a full investigation can be carried out.

Any information received will be reported to the RSPCA, hopefully resulting in criminal proceedings for cruelty.

Those who have any information should contact 01744 676789 or 01744 675823.

More dogs are still awaiting new homes at Leigh Dogs and Cats home too, which takes in strays from the St Helens area.
