Ex-Saints star’s trial date set
Sean Long
EX-Saints star Sean Long is set to go on trial this summer accused of assault.
The 36-year-old, of Smithy Glen Drive, Billinge, formally denied assaulting 40-year-old Pamela Twist in Rainford before St Helens Magistrates’ Court before Christmas.
A case management hearing held at the same court yesterday pencilled in a three-day trial for June 12-14.
In addition to the common assault charge, Long also stands accused of failing to report to St Helens Police Station on August 28 – a condition of his bail.
Since leaving St Helens, following a glittering 12-year career, Long moved to Hull before becoming assistant coach at Salford.
The former GB international famously won three Lance Todd trophies during his time at Saints for man of the match displays in the Challenge Cup Finals of 2001, 2004 and 2006.
He remains on conditional bail.
