Everton star on assault charge

EVERTON star Steven Pienaar has been charged with assault following a nightclub brawl.

The 30-year-old midfielder handed himself in following the incident.

Reports say the South Africa international was involved in a scuffle during a trip back to his home country.

He appeared before mahistrates in Randbury in South Africa last Wednesday to answer charges he attacked Thabang Mnisi.

The South Africa captain was not asked to enter a plea.

Pienaar was on loan with Everton for most of last season but returned to Spurs during the close season.

Both clubs declined to comment.
