Garswood couple Andrew and Gaynor Lyon with baby Esme born on New Year's Day

MEET Esme Harriet Lyon.

Not only was she the first baby born at Whiston Hospital in 2013, she was also the first born across the whole region!

Esme weighed in at 7lb 2oz when she came into the world at just 12 minutes past midnight on New Year’s Day.

And her proud parents, Andrew and Gaynor, of Garswood, subsequently found out that she was the first baby born in Whiston, Warrington and Liverpool this year.

Gaynor, 33, said: “Esme had been due on New Year’s Day so it wasn’t a huge shock. But it was very exciting and it’ll be a nice story to tell her in the future.

“The nurses were all really excited because there’s a bit of friendly competition between the hospitals about the time the first baby is born.

“They brought a CD player in and were playing Auld Lang Syne at midnight too, so I didn’t totally miss out on a New Year party!”
