Crime down for sixth year running

FIGURES released by the Home Office last week showed that crime has continued to fall on Merseyside - for the sixth year running.

In the 12 months to last September the force saw a further reduction in reported crime of 7.1 per cent, meaning there were more than 7,000 fewer victims of crime.

The figures show the force achieved greater reductions than the national average for burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, drugs offences and sex crimes. Theft and criminal damage also went down.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, Ian Pilling, said: “After such consistent falls in crime throughout the last six years it is reassuring to see a further reduction on Merseyside, and I would like to thank local people for their assistance in keeping the area a safe place to live, work and visit.

“I’m pleased to see there have been 7,048 fewer offences committed in the 12 months to September 2012 compared with the previous year, as well as significant reductions in acquisitive and violent crime such as robbery, assault and burglary.”
