Council quizzed over alarms row

editorial image

A WOMAN addressed St Helens Council last week about her frustration with alarms going off near her home.

Dr A Roos quizzed Councillor Richard McCauley, St Helens Council’s cabinet member for environmental protection, about how the authority enforces compliance with abatement notices, particularly relating to noise and fire alarm nuisance.

Coun McCauley told how environmental health officers outline the need to comply with abatement notices and the consequences of failing to do so – which can include legal action.

He said the council had a good record in respect of noise pollution and vowed to look into how the council responds to “out of hours” noise pollution before getting back to Dr Roos in writing with the answers.
