THREE “would-be” burglars were caught in the act by eagle-eyed CCTV operators.
At about 12.40am on September 16 CCTV operators spotted three people tampering with the shutters at the McColl’s convenience store in Four Acre.
One of the offenders was carrying a bed sheet in which to stash stolen cigarettes.
The other two offenders used a crowbar to try to remove the shutters protecting the front of the shop.
CCTV operators immediately informed the police and, after the offenders had removed a large section of the shutters, officers arrived at the scene in an unmarked police car.
As soon as the trio spotted the approaching headlights they ran off - without gaining entry to the store.
