Raiders target a William Hill bookies in St Helens

POLICE are hunting two robbers who targeted a St Helens betting shop.

At about 8.45pm on Wednesday, May 2, two men in tracksuits entered the William Hill bookmakers on Fleet Lane, Parr, with their hoods up.

One of the men then smashed the cashier’s window before they both jumped over the desk demanding money.

The robbers made off with a small quantity of cash and a purple HTC Wildfire mobile phone.

Although uninjured, the staff were left extremely shaken.

The first man is described as being around 5ft 6in, with a slim build, and was wearing a distinctive purple/dark blue coat made of high-gloss fabric.

He was also wearing dark jeans or tracksuit bottoms.

The second man is also around 5ft 6in, with a medium build and was wearing a dark grey Adidas tracksuit with three light grey stripes on the arms, a red Adidas logo on the hoodie, and tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time is asked to call police on 0151 777 6811 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, motorists are being urged not to drink or drug drive this summer.

Police last week launched their summer-long drink and drug drive campaign, with the aim of reducing the number road deaths and injuries.

Officers will be out in force across the region to target motorists suspected of drink or drug driving.

They will also stop drivers to speak to them about the risks of getting behind the wheel while under the influence.

- particularly the morning after a night out.
