A man in his 40s has died after an accident at a factory in Newton-le-Willows on Monday morning.
Detectives from St Helens and officials from the Health and Safety Executive are currently at the site and have launched a joint investigation.
Police were called to the industrial unit on Suez Street in Newton-le-Willows at around 11.15am.
A force spokesman said officers found a man in his 40s who had died after sustaining injuries while operating machinery.
The spokesman added: “The site and a small nunber of roads around it have been cordoned off while a joint investigation by St Helens CID and the Health and Safety Executive gets underway.
“The man’s family are aware of his death and a police family liason officer has been appointed to provide support to them at this difficult time.
“No-one else was injured during the incident.”
