Bikes stolen in raid

SNEAK thieves stole five top of the range bikes after breaking into a garage in Rainford.

The machines were all expensive and individually made, prompting suspicion they were stolen to order.

Police were called to the property on Sandon Grove on Monday (April 23).

It is believed the crooks struck between 3pm and 4pm that day while occupants were out.

As well as five downhill mountain bikes, two scrambler bikes and a hadsaw were stolen.

The bikes are described as:

A black Nukeproof Mega

A black Nukeproof Snap

A Nukeproof with Nigel Page written on the frame

A black Nukeproof with a Matty Lehikoinen sticker on the frame

A black and light green GT Stay Strong Cruiser with yellow writing

A yellow and black Suzuki RMZ-250

A black Kawasaki K2125

A handsaw was also stolen from the garage.

Detectives believe the driver of a white transit or Sprinter-type van seen in the area around the time may hold vital information.

The vehicle had sliding doors and a registration plate which begins KP57.

Witnesses said the van was driven in tandem with a scrambler bike ridden by a man, possibly around 19 years of age, towards Liverpool.

DC Phil Ogley said: “We take this kind of incident very seriously and are appealing to anyone with any information to contact us so we can take action against those responsible.

“This was a distressing incident for the victims who returned home to find the bikes had been stolen.

“Officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries and CCTV footage is being examined as part of the investigation to identify the offenders.

“We ask anyone who may have seen a white van being driven in tandem with a scrambler motorbike in the area around the time to contact detectives at St Helens CID on 0151 777 6832, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

He added: I would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public that there are security measures they can put in place to keep their homes and outbuildings safe and prevent them from becoming victims of crime.”
