Best pal guilty of gun murder
Christopher Strettle
A ST Helens man has been convicted of murdering his best friend following a two-week trial.
Christopher Strettle, 43, was found guilty of shooting father-of-two Christopher Honnor in the chest after a jury at Liverpool Crown Court recorded a unanimous verdict.
Strettle, of Park Avenue, Eccleston Park, who was Mr Honnor’s best man and has used a wheelchair since a motorbike accident, had claimed the October 13 killing - at a flat on Warrington Road, Prescot - was an accident.
Strettle’s wife Lesley, who disposed of the murder weapon and sparked a police trawl of the Taylor Park boating lake, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and possessing a banned firearm.
Both will be sentenced next month.
Following his death, Mr Honnor’s family described the murder victim as “a practical joker” who was “always willing to help others”.
A statement issued by his daughters, Katie and Leah, and older brothers, Geoff and Alan, read: “Chris was a devoted, loving and caring father and brother who lived life to the full and enjoyed socialising. He was well known within the local community and was a popular character, being born and bred in Prescot.”
