A FAMED Cantonese chef is returning to his roots ... in St Helens!

Sam Yau made his name working at Pacifica-Cantonese in Westfield Street, helping the eaterie become one of the most popular in St Helens.

In its heyday 12 years ago, the restaurant regularly attracted fleet loads of customers.

Now, after years apart, original owners Christopher and Vanessa Song have been reunited with chef Sam .

Michelin-starred Sam’s CV reads like a culinary who’s who of top restaurants.

He trained in Hong Kong before arriving in St Helens and went on to work on Paris and London, where he cooked for stars including Barbara Streisand, Mick Jagger and Frank Sinatra.

Now reunited with his former bosses, the trio are hoping to revive the fortunes of the Pacifica-Cantonese, which they themselves describe as “St Helens’ hidden gem”.
