A ST Helens youngster is fast becoming known as a Wigan Athletic superfan.

Joe Houghton has been a regular on radio station Wish FM and his reputation for his knowledge of his beloved club is helping him become a well-known name.

The 10-year-old takes a slot on the station twice a week and talks through what has gone on and gives his expert analysis.

And last week, he even called up Bolton Wanderers telling them he’d love to take over the management reigns at the club stating: “I’m really good at FIFA and Football Manager and I want to step into management and I think a small club in the Championship like yours would be a good start for me.”

Breakfast Show host Adam Alcock says he was taken aback with Joe’s knowledge of Wigan and football in general.

“It’s outstanding,” he said. “He knows so much and would definitely make a good manager!

“It’s great having Joe on the show. When he called up once, we knew we would have to make him into a regular feature.

“He genuinely knows what he is talking about and when he applied for the Bolton job, it was absolutely hilarious!

“They ended up putting the phone down on him actually...”

Joe, who attends St Thomas’ primary school, has been a Wigan fan since birth, attending games with dad Pete.

He said: “I just love Latics and I follow everything the team does. Everyone says I know quite a lot so I really enjoy talking and Adam thinks I’m quite famous now!

“I’d say my favourite player at the moment is Ryo Miyaichi, I love the way he skins people!

“I’m looking forward to the game again this week, I think we’ll beat West Ham 2-0, we’ve beat them before so it should be easy – Maloney and Kone to score!

“I love the way Roberto Martinez plays, he is a great manager and I was so happy when he stayed in the summer, I just hope he doesn’t leave us.”
