ARSONISTS torched four large conifer trees.

Fire crews were called to Chester Lane in Marshalls Cross shortly before 11.30pm on Tuesday (February 26).

The trees were all around 10 to 12 metres high.

Firefighters from Eccleston and Whiston used a hose jet to extinguish the blaze - after 999 call handlers received six calls from worried neighbours about the fire.

Sadly, the trees were all destroyed by the flames.

Watch manager Neil Graham, of Eccleston Community Fire Station, said: “The trees were only about five metres from a property and we stopped the fire from spreading towards the building. There were no injuries.”

The fire was extinguished by 11.50pm and was described as a “suspected deliberate ignition”.
