An OAP arrested on suspicion of carrying out two terrifying armed raids on banks in St Helens and Prescot has been released on police bail.
The 67-year-old was held last week following a raid on the Santander bank in Thatto Heath.
At the time of his arrest, detectives were also linking the raid to an earlier armed robbery on a bank in Prescot town centre.
The man, who has not been named, was quizzed for several hours by detectives at St Helens police station before being released pending further inquiries.
A CCTV still of the raid on Prescot’s Royal Bank of Scotland shows an elderly man walking into the bank.
Wearing thick glasses and a wooly hat, he threatened staff with what is believed to be a gun before making off with a quality of cash.
Incredibly, police believe the ageing blagger made his escape on foot.
A man fitting a similar description staged a robbery at a Santander in Thatto Heath days after the Prescot raid.
