A bridge going far in awards
The footbridge at the stadium
THE new footbridge to the Saints stadium has been shortlisted for a prestigious international construction award - alongside the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.
The 60-metre pedestrian bridge, which links Langtree Park with St Helens town centre, has been shortlisted as a nominee for the 2012 structural awards to be announced on November 2 at the Marriott Grosvenor Square in London.
Built in just eight months, the construction adopted elegant, cost-effective detailing which had a major impact on appearance and will ensure a long, low-maintenance life.
Further shortlisted entries involve some remarkable constructions worldwide including the London 2012 Olympic Stadium and Titanic Belfast.
Nearly 100 projects were entered into the awards this year and that has already been whittled down to 60 to compete in the awards’ 11 categories.
Structural Awards’ judge and institution president John Nolan said: “There were more entries this year than ever before and with such high quality across the board, selecting the shortlisted projects was extremely tough.”
