£4m investment for 24 local jobs

ST Helens-based glass giants NGF Europe have created 24 new jobs in the town as part of a £4m investment package.

The firm, part of Pilkinton’s parent company NSG Group, will use the cash injection to transform its St Helens site into one of the most sophisticated plants of its kind in Europe.

The company will now be able to create glass filament from its raw materials to the finished item.

It will be the only plant outside Japan to boast such a facility.

Managing director Alistair Poole said: “The investment confirms our commitment to our customers in Europe and will ensure that our business remains at the forefront of technological development and is able to respond to customer demands and expectations.

“Furthermore, we are pleased that we are able to expand our advanced manufacturing capabilities in the Liverpool City Region and continue to invest in our successful apprenticeship scheme.”

Work will begin on the new facility in September and the new fibre forming line is expected to be commissioned in June 2013.

Recruitment for the 24 new posts will begin in January.

A company spokesman added: “The investment, which has been made possible by a £500,000 Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative grant (part of the UK Government Regional Growth Fund ).

“It will add a fibre-forming facility at the site.”
