Labour maintains hold on St Helens Council (full results)

editorial image

Labour has maintained its vice-like grip on St Helens Council after holding all but two of the seats that were up for grabs in last night’s local elections.

The result means all of bar six of the 48 council seats are held by Labour.

Of the 17 contested in yesterday’s election, 15 were won by Labour.

Rainford, a traditional Tory stronghold, returned a Conservative, while Eccleston elected popular Liberal Democrat Teresa Sims.

Two council seats were up for grabs in West Park after Marie Rimmer, who was elected as St Helens South’s MP last year, stood down as a councillor.
