ST HELENS X-Factor star Kiera Weathers has secured a place in next week’s heats of the competition despite a warning from Simon Cowell.
The talented 18-year-old stole the show at the first live episode on Saturday with her powerful rendition of Katy B’s Crying For No Reason.
Wearing a stunning black skirt and crop top and her hair scraped into a high ponytail, the audience couldn’t take their eyes off Kiera.
However surly Simon was less than impressed.
He told her: “You’re going to get slaughtered by some of these singers tonight.”
He said Kiera needed to discover “where the real artist is”.
He told her: “I’m going to need you to do something better than that. I tell you why, you can’t compete with some of the bigger vocalists in this competition.”
Kiera wasn’t fazed though and replied: “For me, this is constructive criticism and I appreciate Simon’s honestly. Like he said, we just need to uncover who I am as an artist, and fingers crossed if I’m here for week two I’ll get to do that.”
But it wasn’t all negative, as the former bar worker was highly praised by the other three judges.
Judge Cheryl Fernandez Versini told Kiera it was a “fantastic song choice”, adding: “Who would have thought a few weeks ago you were pulling pints in a bar and now you’re singing for the nation.
“This is what dreams are made of.”
And radio show host Nick Grimshaw continued: “You look gorgeous. I’ve always been rooting for you.
Rita Ora told her: “You have a great voice and that song means something to you. Not only that, you have lived longer than your years and you look incredible.
“You should be very proud of that performance.”
