A CROWN court jury failed to reach a verdict in the retrial of a St Helens man who had been charged with committing a string of indecent assaults.
Last Friday (May 13), a Liverpool Crown Court jury was discharged by Judge Robert Warnock following a week-long retrial after they failed to find Michael Hulme, 32, either guilty or not guilty of the seven charges.
On that basis, formal not guilty verdicts against Hulme, of the Feathers, off Knowsley Road, were recorded.
The prosecution subsequently indicated that they could not seek a second retrial.
In Hulme’s first trial on the seven charges - at Liverpool Crown Court in January - a jury also failed to reach a verdict.
n Residents across St Helens are being urged to get ‘caught on camera’. St Helens Council will join forces with Merseyside Police on Thursday, May 19.
