A TEENAGE burglar was snared after he accidentally left his mobile phone at the scene of the crime.

The 17-year-old boy, from Clock Face, unwittingly left his Blackberry Curve mobile phone in the bedroom of the house he had broken into.

When the owner of the house, a 33-year-old woman, returned home, she found the phone on her bed.

After checking its BBM profile, the name of the intruder, which cannot be published for legal reasons, flashed up and she called the police.

Detectives subsequently searched the offender’s home address in an effort to track down the digital photo frame that the victim had reported missing.

Unfortunately, the item was nowhere to be seen - but the teenager admitted breaking into the victim’s Clock Face home on October 12 to steal it.

As punishment, St Helens Magistrates issued the teen with a 12-month supervision order, a youth rehabilitation order and to do 100 hours of unpaid work.

The youngster was also ordered by JPs to pay court costs.
