Two hospices have joined forces to put on a very special cruise.

Willowbrook Hospice and Thorton’s St Joseph’s (Jospice) have joined forces to put on Petals on the Mersey to reflect the importance of the Merseyside river.

The petals sailings will take place on Sunday July 17 at 7pm and 8pm with families taking time out to remember their loved ones by scattering rose petals in the water.

Willowbrook Hospice fundraising manager Nicky Saunders said: “My dad loved the sea; and was in fact in the navy and sailed all over the world. Growing up in post war Britain and being a teenager when the Beatles were famous he loved Liverpool and was proud of his roots.

“I will be remembering my lovely dad on this sailing as we drift along the Liverpool waterfront, in the place he loved so much; and I look forward to hearing other people’s stories on the night too.”

Mike Parr, chief executive of St Joseph’s Hospice, said: “It’s important to remember our loved ones, and what better way to do that than a sail along the lovely waterfront of Liverpool. We hope people come along to join us and make some lovely memories on the night too!”

Anyone can come along and take part in this unique event, although tickets are limited. You can reserve tickets (adults £15 each, children £5) by calling Willowbrook Hospice on 01744 453798, or St Joseph’s Hospice on 0151 924 3812.

All proceeds will go to support the two hospices both of which care for people with life limiting illnesses.
